RAADS-R from Embrace Autism. A self-report questionnaire that is designed for adults (16+) with a normal range IQ (>= 80) that may have “escaped” a diagnosis during their childhood. Does not diagnose (you need to be diagnosed by a doctor) but this is a good tool to determine if you should bring it up with a professional. A score of 65+ signals a possibility that you are autistic:
Try to receive a diagnosis
A doctor can get you an assessment for autism. It is important to be direct with your doctor and tell them your concerns. Remember to be an advocate for yourself, you know yourself best.
Pros of a diagnosis:
- A diagnosis may make it easier to receive accommodations in your school or workplace.
- Might help you understand yourself better.
Cons of a diagnosis:
- Discrimination: Might increase the stigma you face by others
- Discouragement: Due to the way society functions, having autism may make certain aspects of life more difficult. A diagnosis may make someone focus on the difficulties they face compared to neurotypical people.
- Cost: Sometimes it can be expensive to be diagnosed with autism.
-Time: waitlists for an assessment can be very long.
